Sinéad O’ Moore Ceramics
After 18 happy years in London I returned home to Wicklow, the call of the coast & hills too loud to be ignored.
I have worked with clay for nearly 20 years, predominantly porcelain, though at times contrasting this with a grogged textured stoneware.
Porcelain is a magical medium & I am fascinated when working the porcelain to near paper fine thickness how it moves during the final high firing, producing an organic unique form.
Also I am interested in seeing how delicate you can work with the porcelain while retaining its strength, form & function, engaging with the translucent property porcelain has for lights & lamps.
Since moving home I love spending time in nature, the Wicklow hills & woodlands, inspiring a new collection of etched vases, lamps & dishes – “Forest Walks”. The coastline has also had its influence on the pattern making of some of the forms & I look forward to exploring this more. Being back & feeling roots beginning to grow has definitely inspired the work I have been making & I feel free & excited to investigate this more in the coming years.
My work is tactile & I would love it if the viewer felt the desire to pick up & handle the form. Touch is as important as the visual.
